Our History
The Curtain Up Theatre Company was founded in 1995 by a group of theatre enthusiasts who met at Richmond Community Theatre during "South Pacific" in 1989. For various reasons we had moved away from the Richmond area and felt the theatre bug biting us, so we formed the non-profit Curtain Up Theatre Company. This founding group consisted of Patrick J. Sharpe, Sarrie Materne, and Mark Materne, who were later joined by Rob Wisniewski, Kathleen Wheelihan, Christopher Oakley and Beth Rice, as the first Board of Directors.
In 1996, we applied to the IRS and were granted 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, which meant we could apply for grants and receive tax deductible donations. Since that time, we have received several grants and produced shows at various Macomb County venues.
